Fresh shots of HTC Amaze 4G aka HTC Ruby appear

Up until now we’ve only seen a glimpse of the HTC Ruby, expected to officially be named the HTC Amaze 4G. But its expected specs and screen size promised much, and now we finally get to see HTC’s latest Android smartphone in all its glory thanks to it being put on display at an event in Thailand.
The rumored specs we reported on last month turn out to be spot on. This is a big smartphone featuring a 4.3-inch qHD display with a 960 x 540 resolution. Thankfully, HTC hasn’t skimped on the underlying hardware to take advantage of that screen, settling for a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 1GB RAM. There’s also an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, expected to have a dual LED flash on-board too. In terms of software, you’ve got Android 2.3 coupled with HTC Sense 5.3.
Based on the time Thai site DroidSans got with the Amaze 4G, it still has some tweaking left before it’s ready for market. They reported a really laggy interface, a lot of heat, and some color distortion on the display, although it’s a very crisp screen. While they may be able to fix the screen and lag issues, will heat remain a problem? Hopefully it’s not as bad as the Droid X2.
The Amaze 4G is expected to arrive via T-Mobile, but this unit has no such logo printed on it. This ties in to the less than great experience of using the Amaze 4G at the Thai show, as it must be a dev unit not ready for prime time just yet.
