New Mac mini is cheaper but it lost its optical drive

Apple introduced new models of Mac mini - the most compact and affordable Macs, which is lacking an optical drive. On the other hand, it received Intel SandyBridge platform, Thunderbolt port and, in some models, AMD GPU.Aluminum housing of Mac mini is made using the Unibody technology. Case dimensions remain the same: 19.7 cm sides with its height of only 3.6 cm and weights 1.22 kg. The power supply is built into the case and the bottom of the computer you can find a removable cover that allows to easily install the new memory modules.

Apple released a total of three models. The first one ( $ 599) has the following specifications:

• Processor - Dual-Core Intel Core i5 2.3 GHz, shared third level cache - 3 MB;
• RAM - 2 GB (1333 DDR3 SDRAM), expandable to 8 GB;
• Integrated graphics processor - Intel HD 3000;
• 500 GB 5400 rpm Serial ATA HDD

The second model ( $ 799):

• Processor - Dual-Core Intel Core i5 2.5 GHz, shared third level cache - 3 MB;
• RAM - 4 GB (1333 DDR3 SDRAM), expandable to 8 GB;
• AMD Radeon HD 6630M with 256MB of GDDR5;
• Hard disk capacity 500 GB Serial ATA interface and speed of 5400 rpm

The third model ( $ 999) is positioned as a server, so it comes with the operating system Mac OS X Lion Server. Features:

• Processor - Quad Intel Core i7 2.0 GHz, shared third level cache - 6 MB;
• RAM - 4 GB (1333 DDR3 SDRAM), expandable to 8 GB;
• Integrated graphics processor in Intel HD 3000;
• Two hard drives with a capacity of 500 GB, Serial ATA interface and spinning at 7,200 RPM

As for other specifications these three models are identical:

• Thunderbolt port with the ability to connect the display with a resolution of up to 2560 × 1600 pixels;
• Wireless network adapter that supports 802.11n;
• Bluetooth 4.0;
• Gigabit Ethernet;
• Four USB 2.0 ports;
• SDXC card reader;
• FireWire ® 800 port;
• HDMI port;
• HDMI - DVI adaptor;
• Optical / Analog audio inputs and outputs (mini jack connectors)
  
  There are additional features customers can purchase for additional cost: they can order up to 8 GB of RAM, up to two 750 GB 7,200 RPM hard drives. SSD of up to two 256 GB.
