Microsoft needs a window of opportunity

Although Microsoft Windows is still dominating the Operating System space in the world, its reputation as an innovator died several years ago. Most technology companies have diversified their business lines and have been successfully innovating in various forms. However, despite having all the required technology, Microsoft has so far failed to keep up with the pace.
Apple is striving to grab a bigger share of PC and notebook market, but it has been dominating various other segments like music player (iPod), smartphones (iPhone), tablets (iPad), etc. Google’s search engine is doing well and so is its Android. Samsung is continually strengthening its foothold over markets like smarphones, tablets, etc.
But Microsoft has no major achievement on its name except for Windows and play stations.  On Thursday, Microsoft announced that its revenue increased marginally by 7 percent in the quarter ended September 2011. The financials might be a bit better in the next quarter, as it has partnered with several companies and is trying to introduce new products.
Microsoft Windows
The company will very soon launch its new operating system for smartphones known as Mango; Windows 8 for PCs and notebooks can be released anytime next year; new Xbox 360 will be launched soon; Microsofthas acquired patent for Android operating system.
These pieces of news are enough to shoot up the stock price of any company. But Microsoft remains flat. This is because it has come to a position where it’s extremely difficult for investors to seek optimism in all these news. For a company that was once considered to be the fastest growing company of the world, such a reputation is mortifying.
What it requires today is an idea that can change the way we see and use technology. What it needs today is a window of opportunity.
